About
Introduction
Hello, my name is Ashley Blurton. You might also know me as de.monkeyz, hence the site name. I'm basically a programmer in quite a few languages, but my strongest point at the moment is PHP and javascript, which is how the site is run. I do dabble in a few other languages, quite a few in fact. These are the ones I have used or still use.
- PHP - PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor
- MySQL (Not really a language but syntax is involved)
- Javascript (Very basic stuff to learn)
- VB.NET (Only a few months)
- C# (Couple of weeks)
- C++ (A few years, mainly DirectX Game apps)
- Flash and Actionscript 2.0/3.0 (Not much anymore, but I still look)
- Delphi (Currently Required for a programming course)
- Coldfusion (It's been a while)
- Java (Just as a little side thing)
- HTML/XHTML & CSS (Who hasn't?)
As you can see it's a pretty lengthy list, well it is to me. If I hadn't have looked into all these languages I doubt I would be as good as I am today, since learning several syntax's allows me to apply general programming knowledge to all platforms, making me very adaptable.
Where I am.
I live in the UK, in Yorkshire within Leeds. It's not much but it's home, and as I'm 17 and still a college student (Not the same type of college as Americans do, not sure about other countries) I do still live with my parents. I don't care what you think about that, but it's just where I live, it doesn't affect who I am. I know the UK isn't the best place to live anymore, but I plan on leaving when I can.
What I do
As you probably guess, I program mainly. But It doesn't consume all my life, most but not all. I enjoy normal things too, like goin' outside, having fun, joking around, you know the usual teenager things. When I'm not programming on my computer I play video games, RPG's are usually my style. I own a few online PC games, my favourite being Guild Wars (GW) which is generally anti-World of Warcraft. The other games I currently own are:
- Team Fortress 2 © (Online)
- Portal ©
- Audiosurf ©
- CounterStrike:Source © (Online)
It's not that many, but I don't have the funds for an expensive gaming habit. I also own a Wii, because I think it's the best Next-Gen Console, no I'm not a Nintendo fan-boy, but I have liked them alot. I understand their weaknesses I just believe their strengths are worth it. I own little games for that too, but my favourite by far is Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess.
I go to college also, mainly to learn, with the added bonus of friends. I partake in 4 courses, 2 Math Classes (Normal and Advanced), a Physics class, and finally a programming one. I haven't learnt much from my programming class, since I self-taught myself a few years earlier, but it keeps me busy and I can help my other classmates with theirs, since they are inexperienced. That's what pretty much what I do on a regular basis, theres the odd party but not too often.
Why I do it
I don't really know why I program, I've always loved technology, and I suppose I have my father to blame for that. Before I got into programming, I always enjoyed Maths, I still do now but programming takes up most of my interests now. I first decided I wanted to program when I was 12, and I leafed through a gaming magazine and found an article on gaming jobs. And thats where it all began, unfortunately I didn't have any resources to get started since I didn't get broadband until a couple of years later. But eventually I got given a window, a period of 4 months where I learnt programming. It wasn't a very successful period, but it started me off in the right direction, and I haven't looked back since.
Closing Off
Well that's pretty much what makes me tick, and what I do. If you feel like you want to know more, who knows why. But feel free to email me with the link on the footer of this site. Thanks for reading.
